Buckshot Jones, who will drive full-time in the Winston Cup Series next year for Petty Enterprises(#44 Dodge), will attempt to qualify for the Cup race at Atlanta in a Chevy fielded by Buckshot Racing. Jones had also planned on running at Talladega, but scratched the idea when Hendrick Motorsports couldn’t promise to have a restrictor-plate engine built in time for Jones to practice with. Hendrick became backed up in its lease engine program because of the last-minute requirements for plate engines at New Hampshire. Team owner Billy Jones is focusing on finding a replacement for his son in the Busch Series next year. He said he has talked to two drivers, and three others have contacted him.
