Where is Mike Bliss?

Where is Mike Bliss? Mike Bliss was at Martinsville Speedway April 6, but he had neither a driver’s suit nor a helmet in hand. Bliss began last year with A.J. Foyt Racing, then moved to Eel River Racing. His rookie year in Winston Cup left something to be desired and several top teams in CTS inquired about him driving for them last fall. Instead, Bliss had other ideas, ones that never quite panned out. “I wanted to run Busch this year, (and) I picked the wrong year to want to go (there),” he said. “I probably should have ran a truck. There are some things happening in Busch. I don’t even know on the Cup side. I can probably say I don’t really care over there anymore. I’m mainly focused on the Busch Series.” With the season nearly two months old, Bliss never dreamed he’d still be on the sidelines. “I thought something would have come up by now,” he said. “But the way that everything’s going, everybody wants younger people in their cars. It’s kind of the younger-than-25 thing now. They don’t want experience. When I was 25, I couldn’t get a job.” Bliss had a ride for the BGN season opener at Daytona with Emerald Performance Group(#19) and he thought it was going to be a 20-race deal. Instead, it was for one race only as the team went on the inactive list while it searched for a sponsor(Winston Cup Scene – need subscription to read online)(4-12-2001)
