Biffle Staying at Roush: “Take me out of the rumor mill,” says Greg Biffle. “Roush Racing and Grainger have been great to me and I have no intention of doing anything but staying here to try and win more championships for Grainger and for Jack Roush.” With that statement Biffle hopes to end “silly season” speculation about his future. “Jack Roush, Greg Biffle and Grainger have made long term commitments to one another, and all parties are fully engaged in the process of honoring those commitments,” says Geoff Smith, Roush Racing President. “It is a compliment to Greg’s talent that after only a few races in the Busch series he has captured the eyes of other owners—who are recently discovering what we have known and have invested in for several years.” “I’ve been approached by members of the media asking me if I’m thinking of leaving Roush Racing,” said Biffle. “Each time I’ve told them that I am happy where I am, and I look forward to a successful career with Roush Racing. “At this point in the season, the rumors start to fly about which driver is doing what for next season. If there is a hint a driver is leaving a team, the media picks it up and runs with it. Yeah, I’ve had a few calls about going other places, but I’m just not interested in doing so. It’s very flattering to have big name teams calling me at this point in my career, but I’m driving for one of the biggest names in the industry that has a team of racing and marketing people committed to helping my career. “Why would I think about leaving the opportunity that’s been placed in front of me? Roush Racing and Grainger have agreed to take me Winston Cup racing, and whether that takes place next year or the year after is up to them. My job is to get into that race car each week and drive to the best of my abilities, and that’s what I intend to do no matter what series I’m racing in. “Jack Roush and Grainger will make the decision on when it’s time for me to make the jump to Winston Cup. If it’s next year, I’m ready for the challenge; if it’s not, then another year in the Busch Series will only have me that much more prepared for the jump. “I’m working with one of the best crew chiefs in the business (Randy Goss), and we are building a team that has already shown it has what it takes to go Winston Cup racing. Roush Racing gives me everything I need to go out every week and be a contender. I’ve got teammates that are some of the best in the business helping me out each week, and I look forward to continuing to build the relationships with those guys as my career progresses. “If it weren’t for Jack Roush giving me the opportunity to drive for him in 1998, I may not have been where I am today. He took a chance on me and I plan on honoring that. I’ve already won one championship with the organization and I plan on winning more. That’s the bottom line.”(Roush Racing PR)(6-13-2001)
