Rudd’s Transmission: After seizing the lead on a dramatic move late in yesterday’s race, Ricky Rudd kept his foot to the floor and Jeff Gordon in his rearview mirror, racing hard to the finish line to win the Pocono 500 by a dozen car lengths. Although Gordon had snatched the lead and the win away from him in the waning stages of last week’s race, Rudd regarded his 21st career victory more with relief than revenge. “I just knew something had to go wrong,” said Rudd, who, like the others in the lead pack, wound down the final laps with a dwindling fuel supply. Then, with 10 laps to go, I broke the transmission and couldn’t take it out of third gear. I thought, ‘Man, here we go again, blowing another great chance.’ I didn’t even think about winning until I saw the checkered flag.”(Philadelphia Inquirer), the transmission was stuck in 3rd gear for the last ten laps(6-18-2001) (6-17-2001) see the June 11-17, 2001 Archived News Page Jayski’s Silly Season Site Main Page This page designed by Jayski LLC, 1996-2012© All Rights Reserved.
