#12 Crew Member Hurt UPDATE 4: Derek White, a mechanic with the #12 Winston Cup team of driver Jeremy Mayfield, fell off the lift gate of the team’s hauler while loading Mayfield’s car Sunday following race at New Hampshire. White fell 8-10 feet and suffered several injuries, including a possible broken left shoulder and a cut above and beyond his left ear. He was airlifted from the track to Concord Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. He was awake and alert when admitted and is expected to remain at the hospital for a few days. He is listed in fair condition with a fractured left scapula, fractured left clavicle, fractured rib, skull fracture and sub-arachnoid hemmorhage. Hospital to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. “He’s in good spirits,” Jeffrey Baker, team coordinator, said July 29. “As of right now, he has a fractured skull, a broken collarbone, two breaks in a shoulder blade, a broken rib and a fractured vertebrae.” When White was first hospitalized in New Hampshire, he also had a hemorrhage just below the skull. Baker said the hemorrhaging had stopped and when he left the hospital he was rated in good condition.
