Kenny Wallace in the #1 at RIR: Kenny Wallace will run the Cup race in Richmond, subbing for Steve Park in the #1 Pennzoil/Looney Toons/Sylvester and Tweety Chevy(Kenny Wallace Racing). AND Steve Park will make a full recovery from injuries suffered in an accident at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 1 according to Dr. Jerry Petty of Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine in Charlotte, N.C., but will not participate in this weekend’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway. “I’m following doctor’s orders right now and if he says time is what I need right now, then that’s what I’ll do,” Park said. “We were on top of our game when we went out and I want to make sure we’re back on top of our game when I come back.” Park, who returned to Charlotte on Monday, Sept. 3, received further consultation at Carolinas Medical Center from Dr. Petty, a neurological specialist familiar to the NASCAR community. Petty said time is the biggest asset to Park while recovering from his injuries. “We’ve found some evidence of bruising on the brain and that is what we are treating him for right now,” said Dr. Petty, who did not speculate on a return date for Park. Kenny Wallace, who substituted for Park in last week’s Southern 500, will assume the driving duties behind the wheel of the Pennzoil Chevrolet for this Saturday’s event(Pennzoil PR), Park was scheduled to run the #31 Whelen Chevy in the BGN race at Richmond(9-5-2001) but Marsh Racing has no plans on running the #31 Whelen at Richmond. with a sub driver.
