Firefighters at Lowes – 5,000 heros: A group of 5,000 firefighters will be the guests of Lowe’s Motor Speedway and will lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance during Sunday’s prerace ceremonies. The track’s prerace show will be a tribute to American firefighters and money will be collected during the weekend for a donation to the children of emergency workers lost in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City. Speedway Children’s Charities will coordinate that fund-rasing effort. Lowe’s will donate to the Fireman’s Benevolent Fund $100 for each lap Jimmie Johnson’s car completes in the race and $1,000 for each lap led. Lowe’s employees are also distributing 200,000 “Power of Pride” bumper stickers and banners featuring the American flag at this weekend’s activities(That’s Racin’) AND Blaise Alexander was a close friend to many of Shepherd’s Fire Dept. members in Mooresville, NC. To pay tribute to him, they have put on the side of their newest engine, “In Memory of Blaise Alexander”, which will be displayed at the Pre-race Festivities at Lowes Motor Speedway prior to Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup race.(10-7-2001)
