Richard Childress Racing plans to test the BGN car with the #3 at Talladega Superspeedway on Monday and Tuesday. The #3 Chevy will be driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. in two races this season, the Feb. 16 BGN race at Daytona and the May 25 race at Charlotte. RCR will build, prepare and crew the #3 Chevy, which Dale Earnhardt Inc. owns. RCR drivers Jay and Johnny Sauter will test the car, marking the first time the stylized “3” has been on a track since the 2001 Daytona 500. Earnhardt Jr.’s over-the-wall pit crew from his No. 8 DEI-owned team will pit the car in both races.(That’s Racin’)(1-13-2002)
UPDATE: The #3 RCR Busch Series crew fielded two cars Monday as the two-day test began at Talladega Superspeedway. Six other Busch Series teams participated in the test as well. Joining the RCR #3 crew in tests Monday were Busch Series cars Jeff Purvis with the #37 Brewco team; Jamie McMurray with the #27 Brewco team; Larry Foyt with the #14 A.J. Foyt Racing crew; Joe Ruttman with the #1 Phoenix Racing team [Spencer is testing at Daytona for Cup]; Kevin Grubb with the #92 Herzog Motorsports team; and Ken Alexander with the #63 Ken Alexander Racing crew.
