Christian Elder, driver of the #38 Great Clips Ford, first injured in a crash last October at Talladega and who re-aggravated the sore neck when he hit the wall in California early this year will need neck surgery after undergoing several medical tests. Elder was scheduled to run a limited schedule this year with Mark Green running a few races. Now, Green will soldier much of the season until Elder can make a return. If all goes well, Elder, 33, hopes to be back in the car by September.(NASCAR.com)(5-30-2002)
