In a finish reminiscent of the legendary 1976 battle to the checkered flag between Richard Petty and David Pearson in the Daytona 500, McReynolds beat Hammond in the NASCAR Celebrity Grudge Match. Driving Winston Cup-style convertibles, the two former NASCAR Winston Cup crew chiefs tangled in the final turn of the last lap of the best two-out-of-three showdown. Both cars spun into the barrels outside turn four. Hammond recovered first, but spun again due to a flat tire as he approached the finish line and McReynolds limped by to claim the trophy. Highlights of the evening’s action can be seen Saturday at 6:00pm/et on Fox Sports Net. The OdoBan Summer Shootout continues Tuesday night, June 25, with Hardee’s Family Fun Night. The world’s second Riding Lawnmower Destruction Derby is on tap and NASCAR Busch Series teammates Hank Parker Jr. and Casey Mears are scheduled to trade paint in the NASCAR Celebrity Grudge Match.(LMS PR)(6-19-2002)
