Harvick/RCR talking three year extension UPDATE: RCR owner, Richard Childress says “He’s [Harvick] got one year left on his contract, and we’re already in discussion on signing him for another three,” Childress said.(ESPN/AP), yes I know, an earlier report a few days ago with Robby Gordon said RCR only does one year deals, just reporting what is found.(6-18-2002) UPDATE: Richard Childress said he and driver Kevin Harvick have talked about extending Harvick’s contract, which currently extends through the end of next season. Harvick has been struggling this season after finishing ninth in points and winning the BGN championship in 2001. “We’re even talking about going further down the road with it. Right now, we want to get our cars back to running where they’re supposed to be. It’ll make the pressure a lot easier on everyone,” Childress said. “When you’re not competitive and you know you’re supposed to be, little things just cause bigger problems. That’s what we’ve got to work on right now. That’s my No. 1 goal is to get these cars back like they’re supposed to be.” When asked if he would allow Harvick to pursue an opportunity with another team, Childress replied: “Commitments, not only in contracts, but in life, are big. I’m a big believer in commitments. We’ve committed. We’ve got 11 or 12 sponsors in that race car and it’s just hard to up and walk from commitments.”(ThatsRacin.com)(6-21-2002)
