New Cup team? Atlanta businessman Gordon Whitener and investor and Texas developer Lee Sanders have announced plans to field a Winston Cup team later this season. SWI Motorsports, which will be based near Charlotte, expects to announce a driver, crew chief and sponsor soon. Whitener is founder and president of the United States Cowboy Tour, a rodeo and sports marketing company. He also has served as president and CEO of Interface Americas, Inc., a Georgia-based floor coverings company.(Atlanta Journal Constitution), Buckshot driver? and also hearing that Jeff Hammond might be involved, but not with Stanton Barrett in the other Cup/BGN team.(6-21-2002)
