What ever happened to…..Rick Wilson: Former Winston Cup driver Rick Wilson of Bartow is now a Late Model race car owner with a full sponsorship. Edward Howell of Lakeland is Wilson’s driver in the Timberwolf Late Model Chevrolet that competes mainly at Desoto Speedway. Howell is the current Desoto Late Model point leader after seven races with one win and six top-five finishes. “Our racing schedule calls for us to run 16 events at Desoto and we have an additional fives races to run at our choosing,” Wilson said “We made some key changes on our Chevrolet this season and they have proven to be productive thanks in a large part to our crew chief, Jim Wright, and mechanic, Will Callahan.” Wilson’s son, Travis, is also a short-track driver. “My son Travis runs a Super Stock at Auburndale Speedway and he’s doing well in the four events he has run,” said the 49-year-old Wilson, who has been out of competitive racing for three years. “He has a fourth-place effort so far as a rookie and was a Go-Kart driver in the past. My Late Model driver Edward (Howell) also has his son (Jason) ready to go in a Mini Stock.” Greenwood Chevrolet of Fort Meade and Hamilton Equipment Company of Lenior, Tenn., are also on board.(Lakeland Ledger)(6-21-2002)
