Bill Elliott wins the Pennsylvania 437.5 – seven hours later: #9-Bill Elliott won the Pennsylvania 500 (actually 437.5) after passing a dominent #40-Sterling Marlin with 18 laps to go. #97-Kurt Busch was the runner-up, Marlin ended 3rd and increases his points lead. Elliott’s win was the first win by a pole sitter since Elliott won at Homestead in Nov 2001 and it was the same car as won at Homestead. It is Elliott’s 42nd career win and his fifth win at Pocono, now the all time winner at Pocono, his first win there since 1989. The race was shortened to 175 laps instead of 200 as darkness was looming as there was over three hours of red flag considitions with an accident cleanup and guardrail repairs and the longer one for rain early in the race.
