More Mikey Stuff: Michael and Buffy Waltrip, owners of the #99 BGN Aaron’s Dream Machine, held a fundraiser titled, “Party with the Posse,” in an effort to raise money for four local charities. Waltrip refers to the crew that makes up Michael Waltrip Racing as the, “Sherrills Ford Posse.” The first annual Posse event, held the first week in October around the UAW-GM Quality 400, raised over $73,000 benefiting the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue, Victory Junction Gang, the Busch Series Ladies Association, and Michael Waltrip Incorporated (MWI) employee, Randall Bradford. The idea for this event first came together when Waltrip vowed to assist Bradford, a long-time MWI team member with medical expenses which have built up during his continuing battle with cancer. The afternoon’s events were highlighted with an auction and a three-hour autograph session with appearances by Michael and Darrell Waltrip (“DW”), Sterling Marlin, Steve Park, Ken Schrader, Johnny Benson, Harry Gant, Busch Series Champions Greg Biffle and Randy Lajoie, and many more NASCAR favorites. Waltrip kicked off the auction by asking his older brother Darrell to join him in auctioning off a chrome “DW”-autographed helmet, as well as helmets belonging to and signed by former Winston Cup Champion Dale Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Sterling Marlin and Waltrip donated their personal helmets worn themselves at Talladega Superspeedway the weekend before the auction.(Champion Sports Group PR)(12-3-2002)
