ASA driver Reed Sorenson is not only one of the top rookies on the ASA circuit, he’s set to join the driver development program at Chip Ganassi Racing, the team that fields Winston Cup cars for Sterling Marlin, Jamie McMurray and Casey Mears. Sorenson will continue to race in ASA next year, but he’ll become a test driver for Ganassi’s Winston Cup teams and could run five Busch Series races. Reed already has attended Winston Cup races as Ganassi’s guest, and McMurray showed up in Sorenson’s pit during last week’s ASA race at Concord, NC. Lorin Ranier, who runs Ganassi’s driver development program, has high hopes for Sorenson. “We think Reed has a ton of talent,” Ranier said. “We’re very interested in developing that.”(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(4-25-2003)
UPDATE: Chip Ganassi’s next project will be teen sensation Reed Sorenson. Ganassi has signed the 17-year-old ASA rookie to his talent-laded driver pool. Although terms were not disclosed, published reports have Sorenson, a former Legends Car National Champion, running a handful of Busch Series races next year (under Ganassi’s guidance) while still competing for the ASA Racing Series title. Ranier attended the ASA race at Concord Motorsport Park recently and was in Sorenson’s pit stall for much of the evening. He also brought Jamie McMurrray to the track to check things out and also visit Stremme, who was helping another of Ganassi’s projects, Ryan Hemphill (ASA rookie).(51 Sports Racing)(5-16-2003)
