Tony Stewart may be the defending NASCAR Winston Cup champion, but last night at Williams Grove Speedway [PA] he was just one of the guys. Stewart and Winston Cup race Dave Blaney stopped by the Cumberland County half-mile oval for the first time and signed 800 autographs. Then they climbed aboard a modified stock car and raced 20 laps against a select number of drivers. Stewart won a nicely scripted modified race while Blaney was second and Billy Pauch was third. Stewart, who raced USAC Midgets, Sprint Cars and Silver Crown cars before transitioning into the NASCAR circuits, raced in a midget race Wednesday night at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. Stewart destroyed a car after flipping late in the feature race.( Patriot-News )(6-6-2003)
