Kyle Petty’s #45 Georgia Pacific Dodge was painted in a tribute to the 25th birthday of Garfield, the popular comic character created by Muncie [IN] native Jim Davis [do not remember seeing much of it on TV during the race]. The famous cat didn’t help the car purr, however. “It felt terrible today,” Petty said. “We have no motor, no motor, no motor. We have to figure it out. We need to find a motor somewhere.” Petty used a provisional to start Sunday’s race in 41st place. The rear end broke in the car on lap 95, forcing Petty to the pits, where repairs cost him 19 laps. Petty finished 40th, 19 laps behind winner Kevin Harvick.( Muncie Star Press )(8-4-2003)
