Lester to Busch?

Craftsman Truck Series driver Bill Lester, the only black driver in any of NASCAR’s top three divisions, hinted that he may be in line for a Busch Series car. He is losing his ride in the truck series because his sponsor, Dodge, is dropping the diversity program that has funded his No. 8 truck for the past two seasons. “I’m here beating the pavement,” Lester said Friday at AMS. “I’m optimistic that I may be able to find a quality ride, and it may not necessarily be in the truck. It might be in Busch. “I’m just looking at the best opportunity to be competitive and successful, and I’ve had some good discussions.” Lester’s ultimate goal is to race in the Winston Cup Series, and he knows that at age 42 his time is running short. “I hope to be there in 2005, but it is very much a function of how successful I am on the track next year,” he said.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(10-25-2003)
