Frank Cicci Jr.’s #34 NASCAR Busch Series team, which he owns with former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, won’t be competing in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb 14. Cicci, an Elmira native, said sponsorship has yet to come through for his team, which is based in Mooresville, N.C. “We’re still working on it,” Cicci said. “The sponsors haven’t come through yet.” Cicci, a longtime Busch Series team owner, competed in six races last year with Mike McLaughlin as his driver. He had hoped to have a sponsorship deal in place by now that would also have Chemung native Todd Bodine behind the wheel. Bodine lost his Nextel Cup ride when the BelCar Racing team he drove for closed down after losing its sponsor at the end of the 2003 season.(Star-Gazette)(2-5-2004)
