Charlie Henderson has fielded cars in the NASCAR Busch Series since its inception in the 1970s, and its been done without the help of a major corporate sponsor. The hood of the Chevrolet bears the logo of Hendersons Food Country grocery stores. Thats meant a large out-of-pocket expense for the owner. Besides Crew Chief Jim Daly, Hendersons shop only has one other full-time worker. Thats not likely to change soon, though. With Chevrolet cutting its 2004 racing budget in half, Daly said the team likely wont see any factory support from GM. Bad news, he said, for a primarily self-funded team. Before joining Henderson Motorsports four year ago, Daly worked in Joe Gibbs and Bill Davis race shop as a car chief. Money, or a lack of it, has forced the Henderson team to wait until Bristols March race to make its 2004 debut. Jay Sauter is slated to pilot the #75 car for the second consecutive year. Despite some good runs last year, Sauter ran into some bad luck. Running fifth at Bristols August race, he was collected in a wreck. And a tire blowout on the last lap at Nashville took away a top 10 finish there.(in part from the Bristol Herald Courier)(2-5-2004)
