Evernham Motorsports has taken the next step in expanding its resources by developing a chassis in-house that Bill Elliott tested last month at Las Vegas. Team owner Ray Evernham says the project has been in the works for the past three years and that building the frame took 120 to 140 man hours, not including the research involved in the design. “If you want to compete at the top level, you’re almost forced (to build your own chassis),” Evernham says. “We’re a year behind in doing it, but it’s finally going.” Evernham says the chassis needs more testing, but he hopes to install it in Kasey Kahne’s and Jeremy Mayfield’s cars in the near future.(Yahoo Sports/Sporting News)(2-16-2004)
