Steve Prescott, owner of Team EJP Racing, has announced a change in his team’s plans for the remainder of the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) season. The team had entered the season with hopes of pursuing the entire NCTS schedule, but sponsorship concerns have forced the team to cut back on those plans. “We started the season planning on doing all the races,” Prescott said. “We were excited to get hooked up with Geoffrey Bodine because he is one of the best in the business. We were able to create a relationship that helped each of us; we gave him a quality ride and he was able to bring some attention to the team in our pursuit of landing that major sponsor. Unfortunately, this is a dollars and cents business sometimes, and that sponsorship hasn’t materialized.” Prescott reinforced that the team will continue to participate in selected NCTS events throughout the remainder of the season, and with proper funding, could return to the series on a full-time basis immediately. Prescott also reiterated his gratitude to Bodine for his contributions to the team. “I always respected Geoffrey as a driver before we ever worked together, and that respect has only been increased after working with him,” Prescott said. “He is a total professional. While I am disappointed that our relationship cannot carry on as we originally hoped, I do hope that Geoffrey finds a competitive ride somewhere and wins races. The competitive fire is definitely still there.” Team EJP Racing now concentrates on preparing to tackle the next races on their schedule. There is a possibility that the team will indeed participate in the Dover race, and the Texas event is a certainty. Anything beyond Texas, at least for now, is dependant upon funding. “We’ll do as many races as we can this season, but it’s all going to depend on getting sponsorship,” Prescott said.(Team EJP PR)(5-25-2004)
