  • #48-Jimmie Johnson scored his 2nd stright Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in dominatining fashion, leading 334 of 400 laps [Johnson missed tying the record for the most laps led by 1, Jim Paschal holds the record of 335 done on May 28, 1967. It is Johnson’s 2nd win of 2004 and eighth of his 87 race career. Johnson is the first driver in 2004 to win from the pole. It is Johnson’s sixth straight top-10 finish.
The rest of the top five were: #15-Waltrip [$5 off Domino’s Pizza all day Monday], #17-Kenseth, #42-McMurray and #38-Sadler.
Of note: #38-Sadler ran the whole race with the flu…and finished 5th, rookie #25-Brian Vickers suffered Stomach Cramps the 2nd half of the race but soldiered home to a 15th place finish. The race was red flagged for 5:27 for oil on the track, leading to a three lap shootout, which ended a 1/2 lap early when #9-Kahne bottomed out and tapped #18-Labonte who smacked the wall.
