Hendrick Motorsports swept the first three spots as #25-Brian Vickers is on the outside pole and #48-Jimmie Johnson qualified 3rd [#5-Terry Labonte starts 31st]. Rounding out the top five is #12-Ryan Newman and #31-Robby Gordon. #30-Dave Blaney broke loose and backed into the turn two wall and will need to go to a backup car and use a provisional, starting 39th, but will have to fall to the rear of the field before the drop of the green flag on Sunday. Failing to make the race are #33-Kerry Earnhardt and #00-Carl Long.
