MRD Motorsports signed NASCAR driver Jay Sauter to run a series of seven selected NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races behind the wheel of the #06 Chevrolet Silverado beginning this weekend at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. The seven race package also includes the events held at Nashville; Bristol; Richmond; Texas; Darlington; and Homestead. Founded by Dave Malcolmson MRD Motorsports is located in Concord, N.C. Malcolmson makes his home in Largo, Fla., and previously owned teams in the Allison Legacy Series and also in the Goodies Dash series prior to making the move to the Truck Series. Malcolmson began building his truck series team by hiring Bryan Berry as the crew chief. Malcolmson believes that the Homestead, Fla. native is a vital element to the success of his organization. As their search for a driver began both Malcolmson and Berry realize the highly competitiveness of the Truck Series this season and took into consideration the number of veteran drivers including former series champions Jack Sprague and Mike Skinner that have returned to the series. “The list of seven races is good for me,” commented Sauter. “They are all places I have run well. MRD Motorsports have built three new Chevrolet trucks. I am looking forward to driving for them.” Malcolmson’s intent is to use these seven races with Sauter as a springboard into next season. “With Jay’s track record at these events we should have a good showing. We are using this schedule to lay the ground work to run a full season in 2005,” said Malcolmson. “I feel that we have a good, solid package with Jay as the driver and Brian as the crew chief.”(Champion Sports Group PR)(7-6-2004)
