NASCAR racing legend Ernie Irvan and the Brain Injury Association (BIA) of Michigan announced last night that they will partner for an inaugural walk-a-thon event titled the “L.A.P.S. Walk” which stands for “Leadership & Awareness to Promote Safety.” The event will take place at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) on August 17, 2005. The announcement was made at the BIA’s 7th Annual Legacy Dinner. Current NASCAR celebrities like Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Bobby Labonte are scheduled to participate in the event. For a minimum $100 entry fee, anyone is able to participate and walk side-by-side with these NASCAR drivers to raise money for brain injury education, awareness and prevention. Registration for the event will begin on April 1st. Interested individuals can submit their e-mail address for official registration notification at Ernie Irvan’s web site, race2safety.com or at the BIA’s web site at biami.org . There are only 10,000 walker positions available and it is expected that registration will fill very quickly. This is the first year of the event and in 2006 it will expand to include several locations nationwide.(Yahoo Biz)(3-14-2005)
