We usually call him Mr. Friday, this week he’s Mr. Saturday, but I’m sure he’d like to be known as Mr. Sunday! Ryan Newman captured the Bud Pole yet again today at Michigan International Speedway for Sunday’s Batman Begins 400 with a time of 37.069 (194.232 mph). This is pole #5 for ’05 and the 32nd of Newman’s Nextel Cup career.
Casey Mears (2nd) has his best starting spot since he had the pole at The Brickyard last August.
Jeremy Mayfield (5th) has his best starting spot since he had the outside pole at Texas in April.
Bobby Labonte (6th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 4th at Phoenix in April.
Robby Gordon (8th) has his best starting spot since he started 5th when we were here last June.
Bill Elliott (10th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 3rd at Fontana last September.
Joe Nemechek (11th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 9th at Texas in April.
Welcome Back: Stuart Kirby makes his first Cup start since Kansas in September of 2002! He started 42nd and finished 37th that day.
STREAKIN….Ryan Newman has 21 Top-10 starts in the last 22 races.
Tony Stewart has 4 Top-10 starts in the last 5 races.
MIS is the type of track where you can hug the line or run high, wide, and handsome….and fuel mileage usually comes into play. Maybe Larry Mac will be able to use that calculator this week for the first time in awhile.(Stock Car Fans)(6-18-2005)
