#41-Casey Mears appears to be safe in Chip Ganassi’s Dodges for another season, according to sources familiar with the situation. Mears has been anxiously awaiting official word from Ganassi about his future. Word that rival team owner Roger Penske is interested in Mears as #2-Rusty Wallace’s replacement may be spurring Ganassi to exercise his option to keep Mears. Ganassi could expand to a four-car operation next season, with sponsorship available, although it’s unclear who Ganassi might have at the wheel.(Winston Salem Journal)(7-16-2005)
UPDATE: Word is that Busch rookie sensation Reed Sorenson will get the nod for the #41 Dodge in 2006. Possibilities mentioned for Mears include the #2 at Penske Racing and the #10 at Evernham. There also has been the suggestion that he’ll drive Sorenson’s Busch car.(Sporting News)(7-19-2005)
