#99-Carl Edwards won the Budweiser Pole for the Sony HD 500 at California Speedway with a lap of 185.061mph for his first career pole in his 38th race. Edwards is now in the Budweiser Shootout. Edwards led three other Roush Racing drivers in the top four, with #6-Mark Martin starting 2nd, followed by #97-Kurt Busch, #16-Greg Biffle and non-Roush driver #48-Jimmie Johnson. Points leader #20-Tony Stewart starts 14th. #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 41st. Missing the race were #34-P.J. Jones and #4-John Andretti. Andretti had some sort of problem, couldn’t make his run, and missed making it back to the line by the end of the 5-minute clock and didn’t get to qualify, the #4 team is out of the top-35 in owners points. #92-Hermie Sadler is running a car that didn’t get to the track until this morning as the hauler driver had trouble getting to the track and got only a very little practice time on Saturday, but ran a fast enough of a lap to make the race. #32-Bobby Hamilton Jr. was the highest non top-35 team, qualifying 11th.
