#17-Matt Kenseth won the Budweiser Pole for the Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway with a Track Record lap of 180.856mph for his 2nd pole of 2005 and 3rd of his career. THe rest of the top five are: #38-Elliott Sadler, #24-Jeff Gordon, #22-Scott Wimmer and #99-Carl Edwards. The top five all ran faster the the old track record of Jimmie Johnson’s 180.373mph, set in Oct 2003. #66-Kevin Lepage ties the track record and will start 6th, the highest non top-35 team, who had to get in based on speed. Points leader #20-Tony Stewart will start 9th. There were two wrecks in qualifying, #9-Kasey Kahne [no speed] and #11-Denny Hamlin [made one lap, was to start 7th], both go to backup cars and will fall to the rear of the field before the drop of the green flag on Sunday. Six drivers failed to make the race: #7-Robby Gordon, #00-Carl Long, #61-Wayne Anderson, #37-Tony Raines, #34-Eric McClure and #13-Greg Sacks.
