NEXTEL Cup cars were on the track again today testing at Atlanta Motor Speedway in preparation for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. Dale Earnhardt Jr. topped the speed charts today in his Budweiser Chevrolet, with a lap of 189.215 mph, (29.30 seconds). The #36 Chevrolet of Boris Said was second fastest. Accompanying Earnhardt Jr. and Said were #48-Jimmie Johnson, and #1-Martin Truex Jr. Testing their Craftsman trucks today were Joey Miller, Jack Sprague and Johnny Benson. There was one incident of note during the day-long test. Said spun exiting turn two, but did not hit anything. Below are the unofficial speeds recorded during the test:
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. – #15 Chevrolet / NNCS = 189.215 mph
Boris Said – #36 Chevrolet / NNCS = 188.571 mph
Jimmie Johnson – #48 Chevrolet / NNCS = 187.361mph
Martin Truex, Jr. – #1 Chevrolet / NNCS = 187.108 mph
