The racing season is winding down but a number of NASCAR hopefuls aren’t ready to hang up their firesuits until next year just yet. The 38th Annual Snowball Derby at the half-mile Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL is set for Dec. 1-4 and over 100 entries have been received for both the prestigious 300-lap late model race and its companion event, The Snowflake 100. Steve Wallace [Rusty’s son], the 2004 winner and the youngest in Snowball history to take home the trophy, returns to defend his title but he will face what is arguably the most competitive Snowball field ever. Competitors include Darrell Waltrip Motorsports’ Joey Miller, Driver X contestants Jeff Choquette, Chuck Barnes Jr., Travis Kittleson, and Bubba Pollard, young guns Matt Hawkins, Cale Gale, Charlie Bradberry, Josh Hamner, and Casey Smith, in addtion to short track veterans Gary St. Amant, Kevin Cywinski, Hal Goodson, Ricky Turner, Eddie Mercer, Freddie Query, and Wayne Anderson.
