#16-Greg Biffle won the pole for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a lap of 172.403 mph for his first pole of 2006, 2nd of his career and first since Daytona in Feb. 2005, 73 races ago, putting Biffle in the 2007 Budweiser Shootout. #20-Tony Stewart will start on the outside pole after running 172.068, followed by #48-Jimmie Johnson, #5-Kyle Busch and #9-Kasey Kahne. The rest of the top-10: #2-Busch, #01-Nemechek, Jeff Burton in the #31 Cingular Chevy, #17-Kenseth, and #25-Vickers. #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 42nd after having a very loose car and almost loosing it a couple times. #10-Scott Riggs made the race, qualifying 22nd, being the highest starting non top-35 driver to make the race. Riggs had a scare when his throttle stick before he left pit road, the crew was able to get it unstuck so Riggs could make his run. The non-top 35 teams that made the race were Riggs, #61-Lepage, #7-Gordon, #32-Kvapil [after missing last weeks race], #78-KWallace, #96-TLabonte, #4-Wimmer and #34-Chaffin.
