#99-Carl Edwards has pledged to donate $100,000 of his winnings should he be fortunate enough to claim the million-dollar first prize up for grabs in the 90-lap Nextel All-Star Challenge Saturday, May shootout. “Officials of organizations such as ours would probably do back-flips to get that kind of help from a single source,” said Major General Thomas A. Sadler, USAF (Ret.), SCC executive director. “We’ll let Carl do the back-flips, but I can tell you that we would certainly be grateful and appreciative of his generosity should he be fortunate enough to win the All-Star race.” Sadler was referring to Edwards’ trademark post-race celebration of doing a back-flip off the side of his racecar after each win. The 26-year-old Roush driver isn’t the only one pledging financial support to SCC programs should he win Saturday’s race. Bruton Smith, chairman of the board of Speedway Motorsports, Inc.
