Kurt Busch grabbed the Bud Pole today (in his Miller Lite Dodge) for Sunday’s Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway by almost a tenth of a second over Jamie McMurray. This is top-spot #2 of the season for Busch (he led ’em to the green at Fontana in February) and #5 in his NEXTEL Cup career. We won’t hear the word “ringer” much this weekend, will we?
Jamie McMurray (2nd) has his best starting spot since he had the outside pole at Martinsville in April.
Kevin Harvick (3rd) has his best starting spot since he had the Pole at Richmond last September.
Boris Said (5th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 4th at Daytona last July (only 5 races).
Robby Gordon (14th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 12th at Phoenix last November.
P. J. Jones (15th) has his best starting spot since he timed in 14th at Watkins Glen in August of 2002 (only 11 races).
Ron Fellows (17th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 3rd when we were here in 2003 (only 5 races).
Ken Schrader (18th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 7th at Bristol last August.
Tom Hubert (30th) has his best starting spot since he timed in 16th at Watkins Glen in August of 2000 (only 5 races).B Pretty good week for David Gilliland (31st). Last week at this time he was just happy to be in the Busch race at Nashville. Now, he’s the most recent Busch Grand National race winner and he makes his first-ever NEXTEL Cup start to boot. Betcha his feet haven’t touched the ground in awhile!
STREAKIN….Greg Biffle has 14 Top-10 starts in the last 15 races.
Kasey Kahne has 6 Top-10 starts in the last 7 races.(Stock Car Fans)(6-23-2006)
