#24-Jeff Gordon won the Budweiser Pole for the Dover 400 at Dover International Speedway with a speed of 156.162mph for his 1st pole of 2006, 1st since Sonoma in June 2005 [47 races] and 55th of his career, tying Bill Elliott for 6th All Time Poles Won. This is the 14th straight season Gordon has won a pole, the longest current streak and 3rd longest of all time. Starting on the outside pole is #10-Scott Riggs [but the team changed engine and will have to go to the rear of the field Sunday]. The rest of the top-10 are #17-Kenseth, #12-Newman, #01-Nemechek, #99-Edwards, #41-Sorenson, #16-Biffle, #6-Martin and #2-Busch. #8-Earnhardt Jr. qualified 13th [same as last week]. #18-Yeley wrecked on his first lap off turn 1 and backed into the wall, will have to go to a backup car. #10-Riggs said he missed a shift during his qualifying lap, may have to change engines and would have to go to the rear of the feild at the start of the race, but would keep the good pit stall. The non-top 35 teams that made the race were: #49-Lepage, #45-Petty, #55-Waltrip, 32-Kvapil, #74-Cope,#06-Ragan, #61-Barrett and #4-Wimmer. Missing the race were: #89-Shepherd, #78-Wallace, #34-Blount and #52-Neuenberger. See the qualifying results on my Dover Qualifying/Grid Page.(9-22-2006)
