Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers scored six points in the Nextel Chase Tracker game to extend his lead over former Green Bay Packer Aaron Taylor to seven points (42-35). Smith correctly identified the position of Jeff Burton (No. 31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet) in the standings; Taylor did not earn any points this week. Derek Lowe of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Jerry Stackhouse of the Dallas Mavericks each identified two drivers positions to move into a tie for third-place with 34 points. Smith, a Pro Bowl WR for the Carolina Panthers, is the third different athlete to lead the Chase field for two consecutive weeks. New England Patriots QB Tom Brady led the first two weeks and former Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen led the next two. Other notable performances this week came from Floyd Mayweather Jr. and William Henderson. Each contestant filled out the Chase Tracker grid with their Chase predictions prior to the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway.(NASCAR Media)(10-27-2006)
