Kerry Earnhardt says he has opted to work for Dale Earnhardt Inc. as a test driver rather than pursue other driving opportunities this season. Earnhardt, the eldest son of the late Dale Earnhardt, tested the #8 DEI car of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway. Kerry Earnhardt plans on doing more testing, and possibly a race, for DEI in the future. “I’m just being involved with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated and doing stuff like this – fill in and do a lot of testing for DEI,” Kerry Earnhardt said. “I put an ultimatum [to race] in, but they don’t have to meet it. I understand. I asked for some races in Busch or Cup, either one and [to] be full-time at DEI, be there every day for the guys and be their go-to person.” Last year, Kerry Earnhardt drove for ThorSport Racing and finished 22nd in points. “If it can’t be anything of this caliber, I don’t want to do it,” Kerry Earnhardt said. “There’s not a whole lot out there that is of this caliber. I just chose to be involved with the company and help out the guys as much as I can and however I can.” (Scene Daily)(1-10-2007)
