Carlos Sainz won the 13th stage of the Dakar Rally on Friday as the race entered its final stretches in the West African nation of Senegal. Sainz finished the 160-mile route from Kayes, Mali, to Tambacounda in 2 hours, 30 minutes, 22 seconds .That’s 26 seconds ahead of Mitsubishi driver Stephane Peterhansel. Peterhansel of France still leads the race overall in a total of 43:13:22. Another Frenchman, Luc Alphand, is 11:15 behind in second place. American Robby Gordon finished 11th in the 13th stage, 10 minutes and 47 seconds behind Sainz. He’s in eighth place overall, trailing Peterhansel by 7 hours, 13 minutes and 18 seconds. The race wraps up Sunday at Lac Rose, a lake outside the Senegalese capital of Dakar.(FoxSports)(1-20-2007)
