Ramblings – Dover Qualifying Notes:

Jimmie Johnson captured the Bud Pole today for Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway….round two of the Chase for the Nextel Cup. Jimmie’s time of 23.261 (154.765 mph) was over a tenth of a second quicker than Juan Pablo Montoya, and gives Johnson his second pole of the season (he had the top-spot at Richmond two weeks ago) and 11th of his Cup career. Juan Pablo Montoya (2nd) ties his career-best starting position. He also had the outside pole at the Brickyard and Bristol in August. Scott Riggs (6th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 8th at Richmond in May. Kevin Harvick (7th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 7th at New Hampshire in July. A. J. Allmendinger (11th) has his career-best starting spot this weekend. His previous best was 13th at Richmond in May. Kyle Petty (16th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 14th at Martinsville last October. Joe Nemechek (18th) has his best starting spot since he timed in 5th at Michigan in June. Dale Jarrett (19th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 16th at Infineon Raceway in June. Tony Raines (20th) has his best starting spot since he qualified 17th at Pocono last month. Johnny Sauter (25th) has his best starting spot since he started 18th at Chicagoland in July. Ken Schrader (26th) has his best starting spot since he timed in 8th at Darlington in May (only three races). STREAKIN….Jimmie Johnson has 8 Top-10 starts in a row. The Trouble Train pulled out with six cars in tow today. The dnq’s were: Ward Burton (his 14th of the season), Scott Wimmer (his 3rd), Sam Hornish Jr (his second….back to back), Kevin Lepage (that team’s 24th), Dave Blaney (his third, and both of the events here at Dover), and Jeremy Mayfield (his 16th miss of the year).
