The world of racing lost a true friend on Tuesday morning with the passing of Mabel Kimmel. Mabel, the mother of nine-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel, was a familiar figure at race tracks all across the country for many years [also has raced in seven Cup races]. Her husband, Bill Kimmel Sr., who survives, was a longtime competitor in ARCA and many other racing divisions. Bill Kimmel Jr., whose son Will Kimmel won the 2007 late model championship at Salem Speedway, serves as crew chief on Frank’s ARCA team. Another grandson, Frank Kimmel II, captured Rookie of the Year honors in the street stock division this past season at Salem. Visitation is at Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on Friday, November 23 from 12 noon until 8 p.m., with a memorial service on Saturday, November 23 at 10 a.m. Scott Funeral Home is located at 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130 (p 812-283-8161).
