Sonoma Rookie Notes:

#77-Sam Hornish Jr. was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the June 15 LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway, scoring a 22nd-place finish. Hornish Jr. claimed top rookie honors for the sixth time this season and for the third time in the last four races. He led the race twice for two laps, the first time he has led in 17 career Sprint Cup Series starts. #01-Regan Smith holds a one-point lead (146-145) over Hornish Jr. in the Raybestos Rookie standings entering the June 22 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway [Smith will not be running the race]. Only two Raybestos Rookies have led a lap in 19 Sprint Cup races at Infineon Raceway: Juan Pablo Montoya (once for seven laps in 2007) and Scott Pruett (twice for 10 laps in 2000). Montoya is the only Raybestos Rookie winner in 19 previous Sprint Cup race at Infineon Raceway and is also the only freshman driver to score a top-five finish. The best start by a Raybestos Rookie at Infineon Raceway is second, shared by Jerry Nadeau (1998) and Tony Stewart (1999).(Camp & Assoc/Raybestos), see more news on rookies, history and standings on my 2008 Rookies page.(6-19-2008)
