Atlas Copco Compressors LLC will sponsor the #70 Haas Automation Sprint Cup Series car for the second consecutive year at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on June 29. “We are excited about our continuing partnership with Haas CNC Racing,” said Jim Bruce, Atlas Copco’s Eastern Regional Vice President. “Our two organizations share a passion for innovation and a commitment to developing technology that will improve everyday lives.” Crucial to this racing partnership is Atlas Copco’s global experience with wind tunnel and leading edge technologies, as well as local engineering support provided through Atlas Copco Compressors, whose North American headquarters is located in Rock Hill, S.C. The partnership between Atlas Copco and Haas CNC Racing extends off the track through the recent construction of a state-of-the-art, $40 million wind tunnel in Concord, N.C. The wind tunnel is the only one of its kind available for rent by racing teams and manufacturers. The wind tunnel features a single belt rolling road system, the first of its kind in North America. A continuous steel belt running under the vehicle simulates the road beneath a race car. It is the most accurate and aerodynamic road simulation possible in the industry today and it offers repeatability that is critical to gathering valid, usable data. Data gathered in the controlled conditions of a wind tunnel can be applied by racing teams to improve the aerodynamics of racecars. “With fierce competition in the Sprint Cup Series, drivers and teams look for every possible advantage,” said Johnny Sauter, who drives for Haas CNC Racing. “Our relationship with Atlas Copco gives us the ability to test and refine design concepts in the wind tunnel so they’re already at a high state of development the first time they see a speedway.” Atlas Copco is a world leading provider of industrial productivity solutions.
