so where do things stand with news and rumors in the Sprint Cup Series? Let’s break down a few a day for the next week or so, also see my 2009 Team Chart for all the teams #50 Stanton Barrett has attempted three races and has one or two more. NOS is the sponsor, no word on 2009 plans. #55 Hearing NAPA will return as Waltrip’s sponsor in 2009. Rumors have Michael Waltrip Racing and Ganassi Racing possibly merging to form a 4-car team. #60 a part time team, Boris Said has attempted 3 races in 2008 and plan on two more. No word on 2009 plans, but Said would love to run a full slate of races. #66 Haas CNC Racing becomes Stewart Haas Racing in 2009 and this team will use the #4, Rumored drivers include Ryan Newman [the strongest rumor], Martin Truex Jr was rumored but he will re-sign with DEI to stay at the #1. Scott Riggs could be in the mix, but doubtful. Could Stewart’s friend and now free agent driver, J.J. Yeley get a shot? Rumored sponsors include UPS and Burger King. #70 Will switch to the #14. The team that Tony Stewart will own and drive for in 2009 with Office Depot and Old Spice as the co-primary sponsors on the Chevy. The team will be known as Stewart Haas Racing, was Haas CNC Racing and ran the #66 and #70, will switch to #4 and #14 with Stewart in the #14 and the second driver [Newman?] in the #4. If the #66 stays in the top 35 in owners pts, it will probably switch to #4 for the other driver since Stewart has a past champion provisional to use. No word on crew chiefs for the team. Bootie Barker and Dave Skogs are the crew chiefs currently for the team #77 Sam Hornish Jr. says he will be back and looks like sponsor Mobil 1 will be back, no changes known. #78 Joe Nemechek is signed thru 2009 and the sponsor, Furniture Row Motorsports is the owner, so no changes known.
