Kyle Busch said he might be interested in buying the Camping World Truck Series team owned by Billy Ballew. Busch, who won the San Bernardino County 200 at Auto Club Speedway in Ballew’s #51 Toyota two weekends ago, will drive the truck in 12 to 15 events this year. “There might be a day when Billy wants me to take over the operation,” Busch said. “We’re still in the talking stage about all that, so who knows when that will happen.(ESPN.com)(3-6-2009)
UPDATE: You can back-burner those rumors about Kyle Busch buying his own Truck or Nationwide series team for the foreseeable future. He admits that in business, he’s not exactly another Tony Stewart. “I’ve got enough going on with my late model team that I’m having a hard time keeping track of that stuff,” Busch said Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. “First off, I have to get a better business model going — we spent way too much money last year with the late model team,” he said. “As soon as we get a better plan going to where we’re not blowing through the sponsorship money and using a lot of my money, then we’ll look into buying something else. “But you’ve got to have sponsorship dollars to even look at getting a Truck team or a Nationwide team. You can’t just do it on your own. “In these times, if I started a Truck deal out of my own pocket, it would probably take about $8 million to buy all the assets you would need. And then to keep it going, it’s another $3 million a year.” So, “the first year you’re looking at about $11 million of your own money.” Then this surprise line from Wild Thing, who reportedly went through about $5,000 worth of champagne at his victory party in Las Vegas on Sunday night: “I’ve got to work on retirement first.”(ESPN.com)(3-7-2009)
