UPDATE: It’s been 11 months since his last appearance in a NASCAR series, but Landon Cassill will finally start to put a frustrating season behind him next week when he returns to the Nationwide Series at Memphis. Cassill will drive Phoenix Racing’s #1 car at Memphis, marking the first start for the defending Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year since the Phoenix race last November. So will he race full-time next year, perhaps with Phoenix? Cassill said he was “working on things” but offered no details. “It’s just a unique time with the economy,” he said. “Nobody’s out there to hold me back from any opportunity. I know [Hendrick is] working on creating some opportunities within. Hopefully some things will come up.” Phoenix Racing owner James Finch uses Hendrick engines, has a relationship with Hendrick and needed a driver for Memphis, which is how Cassill’s chance to drive came about.(SceneDaily)(10-16-2009)
