For most of their 60 years in NASCAR the Wood Brothers racing team has enjoyed the most success with veteran drivers behind the wheel of their #21 Ford. But on Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, they showed that they could accomplish a lot with a rookie behind the wheel. Trevor Bayne, at age 19, will make his Sprint Cup debut in the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion after qualifying 28th ‘Â best of the drivers who had to qualify on speed for the AAA Texas 500. Bayne said that having to qualify his way into his first Cup race at a blazing fast place like Texas Motor Speedway was quite the nerve-wracking experience. He ran his qualifying lap at 191.090mph.(WoodBrothers Racing)
AND – 2011? The Roush Fenway Racing development driver obviously was thrilled that he qualified for his Cup debut. Roush Fenway placed him with the Woods and veteran crew chief Donnie Wingo to get him in a Cup race and eligible to run the Daytona 500 next year. Roush Fenway could put him in a fifth car for seven races next year to get him ready for a full-time Cup ride. Bayne had never driven a Wood Brothers car prior to Friday. He had tested a Cup car for Roush Fenway at Rockingham a few weeks ago.(SceneDaily)(11-6-2010)
