Common Ground Alliance announced it has partnered for the fourth consecutive year with 3M and Greg Biffle, driver of the 3M #16 Ford in the Sprint Cup Series, to promote the national 811 ‘Call Before You Dig” phone number on the #16 car on Sunday, Aug. 11 at Watkins Glen International. CGA is the national association dedicated to protecting underground utilities and the people who dig near them. 3M is one of the 1,500 members that comprise CGA. Biffle will promote 811 on the hood, deck lid, TV panel and rear quarter panels of his #16.CGA and 3M selected the Watkins Glen race for their annual partnership due to 8/11 being the numerical date for 811 on the calendar. CGA members across the country have used 8/11 as an important date for large-scale promotions that educate the public about the importance of calling 811 before digging. An underground utility line is damaged by digging once every eight minutes due to someone digging without first making a call to 811, according to CGA data.(CGA)
