During the May 16 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race held at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driver Ryan Ellis and the #28 FDNY race truck were taken out with a questionable move by Jake Crum. Unfortunately, the hit virtually destroyed the truck, which is an all-volunteer team that donates its winnings to 911 survivors. Even the driver, Ellis, spotter, David Ragan, and crew chief all are volunteers. Sadly, because the truck owners donate their winnings, there was little surplus for rebuilding a new truck. But the truck is a popular one. Even Crum wrote on Twitter: ‘It’s like my dad said, I couldn’t have done much worse if I had wrecked Santa Claus. Everyone loves the fire truck!’ Fans of the truck, in fact, raised over $2,200 to help the team get the FDNY fire truck back on track. Names of these devoted fans will be displayed on the truck’s hood for the Pocono race on August 2nd and the Talledega race (in October).(Ryan Ellis Racing)
